India's 328-run chase vs Australia is their third most successful in Test cricket

19 Jan 2021

Aspecial effort from Team India was needed on Tuesday to chase down a 328-run target on final day of the fourth and decisive Test in Brisbane and Ajinkya Rahane's men did just what the doctor ordered to breach Australia's Gabba fortress.

In an impressive display of team effort, India batsmen joined hands to make a mockery of the target, chasing it down with 3 wickets and as many overs remaining. With the win Indian sealed their second consecutive series win Down Under. The repeated their 2018-19 feat with a similar 2-1 margin.

India's win in Brisbane also saw Team India register their third most successful run-chase in the longest format.

Prior to it, India has chased 403 runs against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1976 and 387 versus England in Chennai in 2008.

The run-chase is also the highest successful at the iconic Gabba. In November 1951, Australia had chased a target of 236 against West Indies. Notably, Australia had not lost a Test at Gabba since 1988.
